Volunteer Spotlight: Marc Schneider

From resume reviews and mock interviews to organizing our First Impressions Boutique, CWEE volunteers are instrumental to the success of CWEE’s comprehensive career readiness program. One volunteer, Marc Schneider, has been a huge asset to the CWEE team since joining our community in late 2018.

Marc provides valuable and constructive insight to CWEE career seekers as both a mock interview and resume reviewer. Marc’s knowledge of current hiring practices is indispensable in helping CWEE participants navigate the current Colorado workforce. Additionally, Marc brings experience with trauma-informed care after having served as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, working with people with disabilities to overcome barriers to employment. What inspired you to get involved with CWEE?
I have known about CWEE for many years through working in employment services and have always heard positive feedback about CWEE. It is really CWEE’s mission that inspired me to get involved! I am at a time in my career where I want to share the skills I have developed and my education to help underserved individuals in the community where I live.

I was very excited to see there was a need for mock interviewers and resume reviewers. These are things I do every day in my job as a recruiter. I know how important it is to not only demonstrate the skills you have, but also how you have successfully used those skills on the job and in your everyday life. And, based on my past experience, I knew I would be able to empathize and communicate with CWEE’s participants to help them grow their interviewing skills.

What is your favorite part about volunteering at CWEE?
My favorite part about volunteering at CWEE is working with the participants. They are so motivated to be in the program and to improve their lives for themselves and their families.

What impact do you hope to make at CWEE?
I hope to help participants be better prepared to communicate, with confidence, the skills and abilities that they have learned at CWEE, as well as the skills they have acquired from past life and work experiences. The feedback and suggestions I give to participants in their mock interviews is truly welcomed and appreciated – I can see I am having an impact in their journey to improve their lives.

What about volunteering at CWEE has had an impact on you?
My first day volunteering for a mock interview at CWEE is a day I will always remember. The participant I was working with was going in for an interview the next day for a job he really wanted. He welcomed constructive criticism and the few suggestions I made to help him show the employer his skills and abilities. He was extremely thankful for these suggestions, and I found out the next week that he got the job!

What does CWEE’s mission mean to you?
CWEE’s mission is spot on. Education that stresses a combination of workplace competencies and employment search skills is very powerful. CWEE is a program that changes lives for the better!

Thank you for your dedication, Marc! CWEE and all of our career seekers appreciate you!
