Qwincy Houston – Volunteer of the Day
It’s #NationalVolunteersWeek! In 2022, CWEE is celebrating 40 years of building confidence, community, and careers and we could not have reached this milestone without the support of our volunteers. April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, and one of the ways we are celebrating is by featuring a Volunteer of the Day each day this week. Today, we recognize CWEE Employer Advisory Council (EAC) member, Qwincy Houston.
Qwincy Houston is the Campus Director of ACI Learning and has served on CWEE’s EAC for more than 3 years. A CWEE Champion from day one, Qwincy helped establish ACI Learning as one of CWEE’s training partners and played an integral role in awarding IT scholarships to two CWEE participants. CWEE’s EAC is made up of a group of engaged employer partners who advise CWEE on industry trends and ensures our program stays responsive to local employers’ needs. CWEE is deeply grateful for volunteers like Qwincy who share their experience, expertise, and passion and invest in the future of our participants.

What led you to Volunteer with CWEE?
I volunteer with CWEE because I love the mission. I grew up with a handicapped single mother. She worked from home as a Dictaphone typist and we struggled financially growing up. She did a great job raising 3 kids on her own. I wish my mom would have had an opportunity to get assistance from an organization like CWEE.
What is your favorite part about volunteering with CWEE?
My favorite part is watching the outcomes of the people that come though the CWEE program. I love how the organization continues to seek advice from the private sector to keep them on the cutting edge.
Qwincy has been instrumental in helping CWEE open up IT career pathways for our career seekers.
