Peggy Andersen – Volunteer of the Day

It’s #NationalVolunteersWeek!

In 2022, CWEE is celebrating 40 years of building confidence, community, and careers and we could not have reached this milestone without the support of our volunteers. April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, and one of the ways we are celebrating is by featuring a Volunteer of the Day each day this week.

Today we recognize Peggy Andersen, who volunteers with CWEE’s Employment Services team.

Peggy has been an active volunteer for CWEE’s Employment Services team for over a year and currently works as a Career Coach for Upworthy Career. She always carries with her a bright and positive attitude, and she is known as the volunteer who always gives incredibly detailed interview feedback to both the Employment Services team and the career seekers. Her follow-through and communication excels and she has a clear passion and excitement around being a positive catalyst in the lives of CWEE career seekers. Our career seekers relay that their confidence in themselves and their interview skills dramatically increase after even just one conversation with Peggy.

Get to Know Peggy!

Organization: Upworthy Career

What led you to Volunteer with CWEE?

I had a long corporate career, and for the most part had to figure everything out for myself with little support or mentoring.  I made every possible mistake along the way, and when I retired, I decided I wanted to help people with their careers so they could avoid some of those mistakes.  CWEE serves a population that needs and deserves this help, and I was happy to volunteer my services for them.

What is your favorite part about volunteering with CWEE?

I especially like the feedback discussion after the interview itself. I love giving them guidance that I know will make them stronger job candidates.  The CWEE participants I’ve worked with have been open to constructive feedback and it’s always a positive conversation.

CWEE’s career preparation volunteer opportunities have a lasting impact on our participants. Mock interviews help CWEE participants gain professional interview experience and apply the skills they are learning. Thank you, Peggy, from all of us for all that you do; we appreciate you!
